Configuring the aircraft correctly for the mission can minimize planning errors and maximize payload. Note that configurations and fuel set in FlightSpan™ Ops for planning purposes will not be downloaded to the EFB; the pilot will ultimately be required to verify and set the configuration used on the actual aircraft.
Open the Schedule Detail by clicking on a scheduled flight.
Edit Aircraft Configuration
Aircraft configurations set in FlightSpan Ops are used for weight calculations in FlightSpan Ops, and the configurations are passed to the EFB. FlightSpan™ looks at past history for the aircraft type on the given route, and assigns it a likely configuration, but you should confirm the configuration is suitable.
The aircraft can be configured from either the Manifest Detail or from the Scheduled Legs section of the Schedule Detail.
From the Scheduled Legs section, click on the Edit Aircraft Config button in the Seats/Equip column.
From the Manifest Detail, click on the Configuration button.
Both starting points will open the same interface.
Choose one of the quick configurations at the bottom, or create a custom configuration. To remove a seat, click the seat.
To add a seat, click on the desired seat on the upper left, then click in the green space in the cabin to add it.
Right click on a seat location to designate it as a space where seats or cargo can be added. If you leave a seat location blank, no seats or cargo can later be added from the EFB.
Add seats to a cargo compartment by clicking on the seat on the upper left, then by clicking in the desired cargo compartment.
Adjust fuel load with the sliders or by entering the desired quantity in the box.
If an aircraft is equipped with removable cargo compartments or auxiliary tanks, make the appropriate selection as desired, then Save.
When you save, a dialogue box will open. Choose which leg or legs the configuration change should apply to.
The configuration will be used by FlightSpan Ops to calculate fuel, seats available, and aircraft weight. The configuration will also be passed to FlightSpan on the EFB.
Edit Aircraft Equipment
Aircraft Removable Equipment on board set in FlightSpan Ops is used for weight calculations in FlightSpan Ops.
Aircraft Removable Equipment can be set from either the Manifest Detail or from the Scheduled Legs section of the Schedule Detail.
From the Scheduled Legs section, click on the Edit Aircraft Removable Equipment button in the Seats/Equip column
From the Manifest Detail, click on the Equipment button.
Both starting points open the same dialogue box.
Drag individual items of equipment to the left to remove and to the right to add them to the aircraft. Use the reset buttons to return to the standard configuration for each category of equipment.
Or use the Move arrows to add or remove the entire category of equipment.
Save and decide which leg(s) you want the changes to apply to.
The available payload will be updated, the equipment button will turn orange, and if you hover over the button, it will display the equipment weight variance.
On the Manifest Detail, the equipment variance is displayed at the bottom of the Configuration section.
Payload
Scheduled payload, Max payload, and available payload are displayed for each leg in the Payload column.
If Used exceeds the max payload, Available will turn red.
Maximum available seats and the number of seats unoccupied are based on the aircraft configuration and the current load.
The limiting factor for the Max Payload on each leg is indicated by a superscript letter. Hover over the letter for the definition.
- No superscript letter = The aircraft Maximum Ramp Weight is the limiting factor
- T = Runway takeoff weight limitation
- L = Aircraft Maximum Landing Weight restriction, or runway landing weight limitation
- Z = Aircraft Zero Fuel Weight restriction
